What we do

Noflights.com provides quality travel products and services that exclude flights. It was born out of a passionate commitment to make rail and small ship travel more accessible and affordable at a time when flights are accounting for an ever greater proportion of human carbon emissions. Climate change is the greatest threat to life on earth by all accounts. Whilst carbon offsetting and local environment initiatives might make some holidays appear ‘greener’, the unavoidable truth is that one flight across the Atlantic emits more CO2 than an average family car does in a whole year.

Fortunately, being carbon conscious doesn’t mean you have to stay at home. In fact traveling without flying can be a uniquely rewarding experience as well as a vehicle for positive environmental and social change. What’s more, international high speed rail links are providing an increasingly fast and convenient alternative to flying.

Noflights.com is about sharing experiences as well as providing an unparalleled service catering for the varying requirements of today’s travelers. We offer expert advice from down-to-earth staff with decades of land and sea travel experience across the world, as well as a simple resource for independent travelers who wish to book their own rail or ferry trip to Europe. We are also continually researching and handpicking unique non-flight holidays and hotels, far from airports and the beaten tourist tracks. How we work

Noflights.com is a workers’ co-operative – the company is wholly owned and managed by all its employees – with a strict environmental and social policy. A percentage of our surplus income is invested in environmental and social justice campaigns and projects. For many destinations in Europe, business travel by rail offers unparalleled advantages over flying. For northern European cities, rail travel is often less time consuming and almost always less hassle than flying with its centre to centre convenience. Furthermore, you can stay in mobile contact for most of your journey and work with significantly more comfort and space than on short haul flights. You will also dramatically reduce your company’s carbon footprint.

Holidays

We’ve put together a selection of amazing holidays without flying, from canoeing through spectacular fjords to lazing around on a remote beach. For longer distance destinations, our holidays feature one way travel itineraries enabling you to book a flight back independently (we think that halving your flights is a more meaningful reduction in the environmental cost of your holiday than any carbon offset schemes can offer).

Rail travel is by far the most environmentally friendly mode of long distance travel. Here at Noflights.com, we focus on small ships from local ferries to arctic expeditions to transatlantic sail cruises. This is partly because larger ships pollute almost as much as flights over equivalent distances, and partly because, well, big cruises just aren’t our style.
